Numbers - One's and Two's

One Thing

  • David said, “One thing I have desired of the Lord…” Psalm 27:4.
  • Jesus said, “One thing you lack…” Mark 10:21.
  • Jesus said, “One thing is needed…” Luke 10:42.

One sin can get you into a lot of trouble; ‘…and be sure your sins will find you out’ Numbers 32:23. Just think about these problems: a grain of sand in a watch, a spanner in the works, a virus in a computer, a pin in a tyre and a hole in a boat! One thing can damage many things.

One sin can wreck your testimony and ruin your relationship with God. Repent and get the situation dealt with and then move on. The apostle Paul wrote: ‘One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead’ Philippians 3:13.

One thing can also be a good thing, but it has to be the things of God. Study the Bible and don’t be ignorant of what the word of God says, ‘do not forget this one thing…’ 2 Peter 3:8. What is it? Look up the Scripture reference.

The man who was born blind and was healed by Jesus said, “One thing I know, that though I was blind, now I see.’ John 9:25.

    One's and Two’s

Jesus often spoke in one's and two’s:

  • Jesus spoke of two roads that mankind could travel; the wide or narrow road.
  • Jesus spoke of building a life on one of two foundations; rock or sand.
  • Jesus spoke of obeying one of two masters; God or money.
  • Jesus spoke of eternity; a path that leads to life or a path that leads to death.

    First, Second, Third or Last

    Is God first in your:

  • Finances - Honour God with your money which He has given you to steward.
  • Interests - Do you allow your career, hobbies and free time to run your life?
  • Relationships - Do you put Jesus above everyone else, including your family?
  • Schedule - Is your schedule so busy that you do not find time to pray?
  • Troubles - Who do you turn to when life caves in?

  • Do you honour God in your worship, welfare and witness?
  • Who is Jesus to you, something, nothing or everything?
