God’s Good Plan For Us

According to the Bible, God has a good plan for each one of us, but we Christians often struggle with unbelief. One of our biggest problems is that we lack faith in the simplest themes of the Bible!

The Bible teaches that God is good. In fact the Gospel message is the ‘Good News.’ The message that our sins can be forgiven and that God wants to live in and through us is great news, but we still doubt God. If a preacher asked, “Do you all believe that God is good?” We would state, “Yes.” But if we truly believed, why then do we still resist His will and purposes for our lives? We only truly find out what we believe by our actions. If we believed in His goodness, we would obey Him!

Before we embrace a deeper life of obedience to God, we must first understand that everything God asks us to do is for our own good. When He tells us to forgive, He does so because the unforgiving person cannot have joy. When He tells us to act in love, He does so because the angry person has no quality of life. When He tells us to give, He does so because the person who spends all on self is never happy.

As our Heavenly Father, He exercises the right to speak to us out of love and correct us. ‘Do not be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He disciplines’ (Hebrews 12:5-6). Therefore, before we think about taking cities and nations for God, perhaps first we need to take back our own hearts for Jesus and lay a good foundation of faith.

In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus explains that our faith is evident by our actions. “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me and does them…I will show you whom he is like.” Then Jesus explained that we can build (our faith and) our lives on rock or sand. Our Rock is Christ Himself and His Word. If we don’t obey either, where is our faith? Therefore, if we have faith in God’s goodness, we should express that faith by obeying Him!

If we are unwilling to obey the Scriptures and God’s revealed will to us, it is because we do not believe He is good. We need faith in God. We need faith in His goodness! We need faith to believe that everything He asks us to do, is for our own ultimate best!

“O ye of little faith…have faith in God” (Matthew 16:8, Mark 11:22).
