16. PRAISE and WORSHIP

Question and answer: “What is the right way to worship God?”

We must worship God in ‘Spirit and truth’, which comes from the heart. We can sing to God, clap, raise our hands, dance, whistle and play instruments etc. There is no set pattern or formula, and worship is not just for Sundays, it should be a lifestyle… a way of life. John 4:23,24.

Psalm 149:6 ‘Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand’

Have you ever seen supporters of a football team ‘worship’ their side? They shout, sing, chant and get excited proclaiming players as heroes or even gods! If they get excited about a game, how much more should we be amazed about what God has done for us? Remember what happens at the world cup!

Wisdom: Praise and worship is giving glory to whom it is due. God is worthy of all our honour, praise, worship and adoration. Deuteronomy 10:21.

You may worship God differently at home than you do at church, sometimes with more passion! Some people worship, sing and dance with a Christian CD, others just sit and listen to God whilst reading their Bibles and praying. Exodus 15:1-20, 2 Samuel 6:14, Psalm 30:11, 149:3.

John 4:23 ‘…True worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him'

Fact: To love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength means to worship Him with all that we are. Worship is an expression of love.

Often when we are feeling down we do not want to praise God, but in fact this is the best time to do so because it can lift our spirits Acts 16:22-40.

Think: Do I worship God as much as He deserves? Does my worship of Him come from the very depths of my heart and is it sincere?
