9. Becoming A DISCIPLE of Jesus
Question and answer: “Is there anything else I need to do?”
Becoming a Christian is just the beginning. Jesus makes it clear that we must become disciples; and to be a disciple is costly. But with a great price, comes a great reward! Fact: God has a plan and purpose for your life and He knows best. Matthew 28:19, 20 ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations …teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you’ A disciple is a person who commits their entire life to Jesus. They commit their future and everything they own to Him. A disciple lives only for the will of God and their burning desire is to obey the Lord. Wisdom: We have a Helper, the Comforter, called the ‘Holy Spirit’. He leads us into God’s plan, helping us to become disciples. The Holy Spirit helps us understand the Bible and convict us when we are wrong. Jesus teaches us by His words and actions how to be a disciple. Find out about prayer, fasting, love, evangelism and miracles and so much more by reading these accounts. Think: If you are unsure what to do, ask yourself ‘what would Jesus do?’ 2 Corinthians 5:20 teaches us that we are Christ’s ambassadors. Ambassadors are very important people who represent their King/Queen or government in a foreign land. They speak on behalf of their nation regarding important matters. If an ambassador behaves badly it can reflect poorly on their country. Likewise, we as Christians represent God, and if we do act foolishly, it reflects badly on Him. 1 Peter 1:16 ‘Be holy, for I (God) am holy’ Do you want to become a disciple of Jesus? Will you live entirely for His will? Don’t worry if you do make a mistake. Ask God to forgive you and move on. Many people in the Bible made grave mistakes yet they confessed their sin and went on to do great things for God! More Info: Holy Spirit: John 14:26, Acts 1:8, 2. Right living: Matthew 5-7.
