Jesus explained that in heaven we will be like the angels, and they do not have physical bodies of flesh and blood. Angels are
spirits (Psalm 104:4, Hebrews 1:7, 2:16), and God is also Spirit (John 4:24).
The Bible reveals that we may well have three bodies in our lives! The first is the human or natural body, as Paul calls it, which is
sown in corruption in death, unless Christ returns (Romans 8:23, 1 Corinthians 15:44, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17). This in the only body
we are presently familiar with.
The second is the spiritual pre-resurrection body, which we enter into when we first arrive in heaven. John witnessed this type of body
when he saw the multitudes of saints in heaven. This is the spiritual body we inhabit, as we wait for the resurrection and
transformation of our physical bodies from earth (1 Corinthians 15:42-43). Paul described this state as, ‘to be absent from
the body and to be present with the Lord’ (2 Corinthians 4:6).
The third and final body we shall possess is the resurrected body, which will be united with our heavenly body – combining all three
into one (1 Corinthians 15:52). In this sense all three bodies are one, waiting for unification!
‘It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body…As we have borne
the image of the man of dust (Adam), we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man (Christ)’ (1 Corinthians 15:44, 49).
